Many years ago, we observed a pair of owls nesting inside a metal structure. While the discovery was exciting, it also raised an important question: why were these owls using an artificial structure instead of a natural tree cavity? Through years of observation, research, and habitat management, we learned the importance of conserving mature trees and supporting natural ecological processes, such as the creation of nesting cavities by woodpeckers. After nine years of dedicated work, we witnessed a remarkable milestone: the same owls that had once nested in the metal structure finally chose a natural cavity for their nest. Our logo celebrates that moment and represents Fundabúho's mission to study, protect, and restore the habitats that allow wildlife and people to coexist.
